Wine makers use a press to extract juice from a raw material, grapes, because it is such an efficient method to process large amounts of grapes. From this press comes the end result: a large quantity of very usable juice that will then become wine. Without the wine press, the process by which juice is extracted from grapes would be long, arduous and messy.
